With the Kingfish Maine project fully permitted by state and federal regulatory agencies, this local building permit is the final step required for Kingfish to begin pre-construction design and engineering on its new facility in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The town of Jonesport is now drafting its findings of fact and the Planning Board is expected to formally adopt and sign the building permit in early November.<\/p>\n<p>Kingfish Maine is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Kingfish Company and will deploy the same advanced technology and operational excellence proven in the Netherlands. Once the Jonesport facility is fully operational, Kingfish Maine will be the largest producer of Yellowtail Kingfish in the U.S. and will provide local sustainable seafood for North American retailers and food service providers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the final approval of our Jonesport building permit, we look forward to replicating our EU success in the U.S. with local production of high value Yellowtail,\u201d said Ohad Maiman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Kingfish Company. \u201cThe Jonesport community has supported our project from day one and our commitment to the town has never wavered. Current annual production capacity at its Kingfish Zeeland facility in the Netherlands is 1,500 tons of high quality and high value Yellowtail Kingfish.<\/p>\n<p>Expansion is underway and capacity in the Netherlands will reach 3,500 tons in early Q1 2023. In the US, permitting for the company\u2019s 8,500 tons capacity facility is progressing as planned.<\/p>\n<p>Production is based on advanced recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), which protect biodiversity and ensure biosecurity. Animal welfare is paramount, and the fish is grown without use of antibiotics and vaccines. Operations run on 100 percent renewable energy, sourced from wind, solar and biogas. The company\u2019s facilities operate on sea water, avoiding wasting of precious fresh water.<\/p>\n<p>The Kingfish Company\u2019s main product at present, the Yellowtail Kingfish (also known as Ricciola\/Hiramasa\/Greater Amberjack) is a highly versatile premium fish species, well known in the Italian and Asian fusion cuisines.<\/p>\n<p>Its products are certified and approved as sustainable and environmentally friendly by Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and British Retail Consortium (BRC).
